QuestionPatti:
I have a 6 month old English Bulldog pup and I was wondering at what month will his adult teeth come in? Also at what month will his testicals drop? I asked my vet and he gave my an answer but was not quite sure, since they are a rare breed here in my area. Thank you for your time with my question.
Mike.
AnswerHi Mike,
The process of teething begins when the puppy is about 4-5 months of age and continues for several months, as the adult teeth come in.
A dog's teeth don't set in his jaw until between 6 and 10 months. During this time, the puppy has a physical need to exercise his mouth by chewing, so you need to provide your puppy with a variety of safe chew toys.
Testicles drop between 4-6 months of age, and it is not that uncommon for a dog (of any breed) not have both testicles descended before 4 months old. Sometimes they can be tucked way up in the abdomen.
If the testicle is not down by the time the dog is 6 months of age, then I would get the dog neutered. The danger of leaving one testicle inside a body is that it will "die" and the dog will have an increased risk of getting testicular cancer.
Oh, by the way, I love Bulldogs! I bet your puppy is beautiful!
Best of luck,
Patti
