Chihuahua neck pain

My Chihuahua is having pain along the back of his neck.  He moves fine but yelps if he is petted in that area.  Could it be from some one picking him up by the scruff of the neck?

No, it is not likely due to being picked up by the scruff of the neck as that is how adult dogs carry their puppies if they move them.

Chances are that your dog has a vertebra out-of-alignment and needs to be seen by a veterinary chiropractor for an alignment. http://www.avcadoctors.com/search_for_avca_certified_doctor.htm  Hopefully, you can find one in your area.

The dog should do full stretches fore and aft, should do full body shakes from nose to tail, should do full yawns, and should be able to turn his head to the right and left and touch his sides with his nose. I would guess that he is not doing some or all of these behaviors, and it does sound like he is in a great deal of pain.
