Odd coat

Question
Hi Wendy! I have a two year old, neutered English Springer Spaniel with a strange coat condition. The white fur is all sleek and like it should be and so is the liver colored hair on his head. What's the problem?  The liver colored hair on his shoulders, back, and rear end is just an undercoat. Or so it would seem. Its soft and frizzy and sticks out in all directions. Especially alonghis hip bones where it sticks up in the air. The white patches along his hindquarters are fine.  We've tried many methods recommended by friends such as dog conditioners and so on but nothing seems to work.

Answer
So it sounds like where ever a  clipper has cut his hair is all frizzy?  I usually see this in double coated breeds..poms, chows...husksy  etc...that clients want shaved down.  It is as if they loose the topcoat.  I really don't know what you can do for this. Make sure he is eating a quality dog food...#1 ingredient should be some kind of meat.  Lamb seems to be more drying then beef or chicken. You could try adding a capful of peanut oil to his food. It could take up to 6-8 weeks to see any improvement from this. But I can't guarentee anything. Wish I could be of more help.
