Question
QUESTION: hi nancy,
i mailed u about my rottweiler a few weeks back.her aggressive behaviour has reduced.my frnd told me to tap her on top of the nose and it worls for me very nice.she started showing more love and affection after that.before she only cares when there is food and doesnt like to be petted or rolled over.now using this tap method i see gud changes.is it ok to use this method?are there any problems if i use it?
i also growl at my puppy when she does something wrong but some said it has no effect on dog training.is that right?

karthik

ANSWER: Karthik,
I have used that method myself, the only problem with it is that they can become hand shy. Which means when you raise your hand at anything they will duck.  You might try the tap under the chin without her seeing your hand.  That way she has a consequence, but doesn't put it to your hand.  If this doesn't work go back to whatever works...
Make sure you can take her food away and give it back at all times.  If you need help with that let me know

QUESTION: thanks for the answer nancy,i also noticed that she became hand shy.but she is not ducking she is trying to snap.i take her food away from her always but she has no problem.she never shows any aggression or anything.but recently i bought a bone for her and she likes it very much.she hides from me and then enjoys the bone.if i try take it she barks and growls.what to do about it?

Answer
do not back off,,, take the bone away from her. after you take it offer her a treat that is tastier than the bone.   give her the bone again  and take it away again in your other hand give her a tasty treat.   Keep repeating this until she realizes  a) you will return the bone  and
b)  there is a very good treat when she has her bone taken away
