Vicks Vapor Rub

I've read that you can put a dab of Vicks Vapor Rub under a female's tail to mask the scent.  My male dog is driving us nuts.  I'll be getting him neutered soon but need to know if the Vicks is safe.  Thank you.

No, the scent which alerts a male dog that a female is in heat is hormonal, it's not an actual odor that can be masked.

Your female dog would get more in the way of health benefits if you had her spayed, rather than having your male dog neutered. Of course, having both of your dogs altered is the ideal situation. There may be reduced cost spay and neuter services in your area. Contact your local animal shelter or Humane Association to see what's available where yo live.
