Male Pug peeing all over the house

Question
Hi Cindi,

I have two pugs. My female is 6 years old and my male is 4years old. We moved from California to South Carolina almost 4 months ago. Since we moved here, my male pug who never went potty in the house is now peeing everywhere everytime we leave. Before he had access to a yard and someone was always home. Now that we are in South Carolina we do not have a fenced yard and we both have gone to work. We take them out to potty before we leave, but that still doesnt seem to help. On the days that we are home, we have tested his bladder so to speak. We get up at the same time and take them out to potty as if we were going to work, then we wait until it would be time for us to get home and take them out again...NO problem.,..no pee in the house. However, the days we are  gone.....he pees everywhere. I  am  not sure what to do for him. Could this be seperation anxiety?...still getting use to all  the changes  so  fast??? Any advice is appreciated.

Answer
It definitely could be separation anxiety and all the changes. Can you arrange to have someone come by during the day and let him out? What about keeping him in a smaller area rather than allowing him free run of the house? Less water while you're gone? And have you taken him to the vet? Frequent urination is sometimes a symptom of physical changes. But it sounds to me like an emotional one. Make sure he has something to do, leave the tv on for him, weird I know but it HELPS. Get him some toys that make him work physically and mentally such as kongs with his favorite treats inside. Take him for long walks morning and evening even if you have to get up earlier.  Better clean your carpets as well since once the odor is in there it's harder to stop.
Try leaving him ice cubes instead of water down all the time.  Oh and is doggie day care an option at all? Even a few days a week would be great.
Good luck
