Question
My girlfriend is interested in buying her daughter a small or medium dog.  Since I am allergic, we were interested in buying her a short-hair dog.  We were wondering about a dog that can get along with children easily and is first-time owner-friendly.  We are hoping for a good-tempered housepet.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Breeds that get haircuts(poodles, terriers ect)are the best bet,or one of the few hairless breed,as it's not length of the hair, but the type of hair it is and the amount of shedding, and short haired dogs shed the most

Now as for what breeds, there are a number of them, but please, please avoid petstores all together and 'breeders' that sell any of those 'poo' or 'doodle' breeds,as they are not purbreds and often don't have good temperments or health

If you want a mixed breed,a shelter or a rescue is the way to go-or if you want a certain breed go to a GOOD breeder that you can see the parents

I have a breed that doesn't shed and he loves everyone including kids-he's a scottish Terrier and he's medium sized, and he was easy to train, thats a breed you can look into but becareful where you get one from as they are sometimes backyard bred and those ones tend to be snappish, but mine was from a good breeder and like i said he loves everyone

But there are a number of breeds that don't shed,to find out more breeds, talk to a vet for referals and info

hope this helped
