Question
My daughter has a teacup Yorker that is now showing hair loss on his back.  I know that they don't shed.  I thought it could be his collar, clothes, or cleansing products.  I starting to worry. I'll be taking him to the vets tomorrow, I just want to know what to expect. Thanks

Answer
Hi Vicki,

Anytime a dog experiences hair loss, a thyroid condition should be ruled out. Many times Hypothyroidism's first symptom is hair loss. To rule out a thyroid problem a blood test can be run at the vet's office.

There are also some hormonal conditions, and autoimmune disorders that can cause hair loss.

It's good you're having your dog examined by your vet. Try not to worry!

Best of luck,

Patti
