Question
I have a minature poodle/llasa apso that is 15 1/2 years old and just got a 13week old blue heeler mix puppy. My older dog (Ellie) was raised with two other dogs her same age that have since past away 3yrs ago and 1yr ago. She got along with them fine. Ellie is  not a real sociable animal outside the family but enjoys a good rub and her treats. Our new puppy has been at the end of her wraith due to her playfullness an has gotten bitten 3x's now. They sleep in different beds the puppy has a large crate when no one is home and I make sure the puppy gets pleanty of excersize during the day. I also spend alone time with Ellie and give her frequent rubs and all the loving she will take till she walks away. Which is usually when the puppy shows up in her line of sight. Is there anything I else i can do to help her accept this new puppy? I have tried playing together with them and Ellie just snaps at the puppy. Please any suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Once past 3 years old, many dogs don't want anything to do with puppies, their sharp little teeth, and their biting games.  You need to teach the puppy to leave the older dog alone.  As soon as the puppy starts to focus on the older dog, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and offer it a chew toy.
