Question
QUESTION: Hi, I took my 8yo mini Dachshund to the emergency dog clinic today for his back issues, however, upon testing it revealed that his liver ALT is 902, the doc stated that he has liver damage.  Please Please Please, advise me on some diet, or something that can help his condition. He weighs 16lbs if this helps.

ANSWER: Hi Mary,

Thank you for writing to me about your sweet Dachshund.  Are you the person who recently wrote to me about your dog's back pain?

My own dog has high liver enzymes suddenly.  I am giving her 3 milk thistle at night (works better at night) by Gaia Company (one of the best).  I am also giving her Hepatrophin PMG #4775 by Standard Process and Hepagen by Cardiovascular Research.  Each is one pill, AM & PM.  I will be retesting soon to see if these helped.

I am working with Dr. Newkirk at Margate Animal Hospital.  You can find him on Google.  He will work long distance with you.  I suggest that you give him a call and tell him that I recommended him to you.

What do your doctor's recommend?

Your dog may also need a change in diet. I would feed only organic food.  Speak with Dr. Newkirk about what he would recommend.

Please keep me posted.

Best Regards,
Shelley Davis

QUESTION: Hi Shelley,
Thanks for responding.  No it was not I that asked before. Unfortunatly we had to put Titus down today :((
He will be deeply missed.  His back condition was putting pressure on his spine, therefore causing him to become paralyzed.

Answer
Hi Mary,

Thank you for writing today during this grief stricken time.  That was very kind and thoughtful of you.

I am so sorry for your loss.  My heart is breaking for you and Titus.  Know that his love and energy will surround you always and that you will be reunited one day.

Hugs,
Shelley
