nail clipping

I was clipping my dogs toe nails and cut on that made it bleed.  Is this dangerous and what can I do to stop the bleeding?

Hi Kay;
Yes it is very painful. You can stop the bleeding with a product they sell at pet stores and probably Veterinarian clinics.
I have never had one bleed severely.
I have only hit the quick a couple of times.
If the bleeding is severe,and you can't get it stopped right away, I would take him to his Veterinarian.
The black nails are very hard to see the quick and not get too deep.
The product is I think Stiptic. Not sure of the spelling.
It is what men can get in a pencil to stop razor cuts from bleeding when they shave.
