We are going out of state for spring break and we need to board our dog for about a week. She was last boarded at a kennel nearby in summer of 2003, and had all the neccessary shots to do so. She hasn't had shots since, what does she need now to be boarded this March (almost 2 years later)? Does she need a bordatella booster/shot? What else will we have to get for her to be boarded?

Thank you!

Answer -
Please tell me the area you live in?  Perhaps I can recommend a good place for dog boarding.

If you might recall reading my introductory bio information, I am not a proponent of vaccinations.  Bordatella is a wasted shot, and possibly even a dangerous one in my opinion.  It is unnecessary for a dog to receive any vaccinations more than once every three years after the initial series of puppy shots...and again in my opinion, only Rabies should be given at all.

If you can find a person who boards in their home, such as I do, they may forgo the need for unnecessary and dangerous vaccinations.

Other than that, you will have to consult with the kennel you wish to board with and find out what their requirements are.

Good luck,

WE LIVE IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN, BUT I MAY BE BOARDING HER NEAR MONROE, WI, I MIGHT BE DRIVING TO VACATION AND MY PARENTS LIVE NEAR MONROE, WI. ANYWHERE ALONG INTERSTATE 94, BETWEEN MINNEAPOLIS AND MADISON WISCONSIN WOULD BE FINE.

Answer
Hi Heidi,

I was so hoping that you were in my area and I could help you out with pet care.   I am not familiar with your area.  People like me rarely advertise, except I do have a website.

All I can say is to scout your newspapers, call all the vets, call all the shelters, talk to every person you see with a dog, search the web under cageless boarding, etc.  Also...contact every homeopathic vet, every holistic vet (there are societies), every vet that does acupuncture etc.  Sometimes, some of them will do pet care at their own homes.

This is the only plan that comes to mind at the moment.  Good luck and lots of hugs and kisses for your precious munchkin.
