Question
I have a dapple that is blind in 1 eye and seems to have a hearing deficit. I want him to have a quality life as I love him to pieces! Any suggestions? thank you and God bless!

Answer
Blind dogs can function quite nicely, and yours apparently still has vision in one eye, so this is sort of a moot point. I knew a dog with only one eye who competed in agility.

Hearing is a different story, as that is more difficult to deal with... although, again, I know someone with a fondness for deaf white bull terriers, and she competes with them in agility also. One of hers has gone to the NADAC Championships on more than one occasion, and Lefty is totally trained to respond to hand signals. Many dogs lose their hearing as they get older, and it is helpful to have them trained to respond to hand signals, particularly one for "come". Lefty's "good dog" sign is two arms raised in the air; sort of a "YAY!"
