Would eating a sponge hurt my dog?

Question
My feamle basset (7 mo old) has been having diarrhea and vomiting off and on for nearly two weeks.  She's up on h3er shots, had no worms, lives inside the home with us, has a large fenced yard, and no chance of being poisoned by anyone.  We switched her food to sensitive system diet, and now to boiled rice and broth.  She is not lethargic nor does she seem to be in pain.
Yet we cannot undertand what is causing her gastrointestinal problems.

The only thing we can think of is that she got ahold of a kitchen sponge a few weeks ago, and it was nearly half consumed by the time I discovered and confiscated it from her.
Could this be causing her problems, if so what should we do about it?  If not, do you have any other ideas or suggestions for us?
Thank yo for your time and assistance.

Answer
Hi Jessica!

Yes, it could be stuck in her intestines, and that could cause major problems.  It also could be blocking the entry to the stomach and that would be why she is vomiting so much.  This could be very serious, and if I were you I would take her to the Vet.  Even if it is not the sponge causing the problem, the symptoms you are describing are not normal and really need to be checked. Please don't wait too long to have her checked out, as this could be a very serious problem.

God Bless,
Becky
