Question
i have a one year old bullboxer. she is part boxer and part american bulldog.  she is not fixed yet.
last night she started carrying around a rubber toy frog and crying loudly. she drops it between her feet nudges it then picks it up so carefully and cries and carry's it around.  i had to hide it from her to calm her down, but she is only quiet when she is sleeping.
she has had one heat cycle during the winter  and we are getting her fixed here in the next few weeks.
does she thing this is a puppy? and what should i do to ease her worring and crying?
thanks
kathyk

Answer
Yes sounds like she could be having a pseudopregnancy (false pregnancy). This is common and having her spayed should solve the problem. She also is likely about to come into heat again. If she is in heat wait until the heat cycle is over before having her spayed (when in heat their is increased blood flow to the ovaries and uterus and thus more bleeding can occur in surgury and this should be avoided is possible do to the bleeding risks). If she is allowed to keep the toy she could start lactating (producing milk) and this will lead to other problmes because no pupies will be their to drink the milk from her. Get her spayed as soon a possible and don't let her have the toy in the meantime. Hope this helps and good luck with her. If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask, I will be glad to try and answer them for you!
