grooming + behavior

Dear Nancy
   I own a Jack R Terrier named Benji. He is a very smart and friendly dog. the problem is that he so hyper and refuses to listen. I know he understands! he sits, shakes hands on both right an left, dances and plays HIDE AND SEEK on command. His hair is growing out like a mop. First i tried to cut his hair myself but he wont sit still and I'm afraid of hitting his eyes and cutting him. I've tried bring him to a pro. dog groomers but they wont except him because hes too wild. do you have suggestions?

Two things to try:   for the grooming a mild tranquilizer from the vet will take care of that.
for hyper, I would start to get him to sit by you and you pet him until he calms down.  This is not a quick fix and will take time but believe me it is worth the effort.
