Question
Labman, I have a new puppy she is a lab mix. Here previous owners told me she was a lab shepard mix. They did not really know what type of shepard though. I don't think they know too much about these puppies, but they did know she was half lab. My question is I leave my house every morning at 5 am. I live in an up stairs apartment and my puppy barks and cries when I put here in her crate to go to work. I have even gone home on my lunch to let her out to go to the bathroom and play for an hour. I read you are not supposed to leave them in the crate longer than 5 hours? I am gone everyday for 9 hours. Also she barely sleeps through the night she cries to go out I wake her up she pees and poops, she wont go in the house, but she wants to play after she uses the bathroom, she gets a burst of energy! Is there any tips you can give me? my husband has never had a puppy so this is driving him crazy! He had no clue how much work it is, I ma willing to put the work in ad so is he, how ever I need so HELP!

Answer
Yes, puppies are a lot of work.  I think you need to continue to return at lunch to give her a break.  You could also have a neighbor or professional dog walker do it.  You don't say how old she is.  When she is old enough, you couLd look into doggy day care.

You could try filling a Kong with peanut butter, freezing it, and give it to her when you leave.
