Mosquitoes

Question
I am bringing my two miniature schnauzers camping for the Canada Day long weekend and even though they have just had their "Revolution"  heart worm and flea/tick for the month.  I heard that rubbing dryer sheets like bounce repels mosquitoes and is not harmful to the pet.  I am wondering if you know if there is any truth to this, or if you can recommend an alternative method to repel pests.  I want them to enjoy the outdoors, but I don't want them to suffer from it next week all full of bites.

Help!

Answer
While I have never tried the Bounce sheets, there certainly are plenty of people on the internet that swear they work.

Here is a site that lists several "natural" possibilities for mosquitoe repellents. Since I live in the woods of Minnesota with a pond and a creek, I should try some of these myself! http://www.geocities.com/sptmbrmrn/mosquito_repellants.htm

If you go about halfway down this page, it lists several products for repelling mosquitoes. http://www.cvm.uiuc.edu/czr/wnvpetvets.html

I would check with your vet before using any of this stuff since your dogs are on Revolution, and also read all labels for toxicity in case your dogs are lickers.
