Dachshund pregnancy

My female dachshund was bred for the first time on June 1.  She is a very petite bitch, and I noticed her tits being swollen within 2-3 days after her first tie.  Her vulva is also swollen.  My vet says he can't do an x-ray until she is 55 days.  Does that seem like a bit long for you, I mean if your going to wait 55 days, u might as well just sit it out for the last week, right?  I guess my question is how can i tell for sure if she is pregnant or not?  Her appetite doesn't seem to have changed much, but she is seeking more affection from me as she wants to be in my lap all the time.  Is there anything special I should be doing for her beside feeding her puppy food?  Vitamins, shots...etc.  Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

It wouldn't hurt to add cottage cheese to her daily diet, as a calcium source.  I believe an ultra sound can be done around 4 to 5 weeks.  
x-rays can do damage to undeveloped pups so your vet is right about that.
Dachshund's are pretty obvious in pregnancy, so I think you will be able to tell.  That thin body of theirs, doesn't hide much
