Question
I have just recently gotten a 8 month old purebred chihauhau. She has been in a kennel the whole 8 months of her life.  She is very very very skittish and runs and hides under and in every dark corner.  She jumps and thrashes around on a leash trying to get away from me. She is scared to death of me. She is not house trained and i don't have a fence yard to put her in if i wanted to.  I Really would like to keep this dog but i am at my wits end and i have only had her for about a week.  Is it right for me to keep her if she is terrified of me and every human and everything in sight?? Any suggestions??

Answer
Well sometimes it may take up to a month to get used to being in a house when they have always been in a kennel

Having said that, there is a trick that you can try-first what you can try is to slowly reach out and give her a treat, but for the first few times don't touch her just quietly praise her

After she will take treats then you can slowly reach out to her, even if it is only brief contact-after time try touch her for longer periods of time until she lets you stroke her

This works pretty well and over time she will become more adjusted to being a pet-I do not think she is a lost cause I think she will come around in time
