My 7 week old shitzu

Question
I adopted a seven week old shitzu 2 days ago.  The women that had to give her up claimed to us that she was eating regular dry puppy food howevre, I am finding she is having trouble chewing the food. When I was younger my family bread Brittany Spaniels so I know you need to soften the food but Luci May refuses to eat out of the bowl.  I started softening her food with water and then trying to get her to eat it.  She will suck the water out of the bowl but will not eat the food unless I take the food out of the bowl and put it on the ground.  Do think maybe she was weened to early or not properly?  Or maybe the bowls we are using are too big?  She won't drink water from a bowl unless there is food in it but she doesn't eat the food unless I give it to her.  I am at a loss and I don't want my puppy to get sick or starve or become dehydrated.  Any suggestions on how to encourage Laci May to eat?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
The bowls may either be too big or she doesn't like metal bowls if that's your your using-some dogs will only eat out of a ceramic bowl

Also it may take 5 or so days before the puppy feels up to eating as it takes time for them to settle in and they don't want to eat, dogs, unlike cats won't starve themselves if they know food is available, and as tempting as it might be,don't mix any kind of treats into the puppy's food as that will lead to being a fussy eater later on

For what you can try for now are small ceramic(or plastic)bowls and just leave it down so the puppy will know there is food around
