Question
We have a 4month bullmastiff named Beowulf (Woofy) Over the past week he has had frequent bm's (solid to runny) I have not noticed any worms in the stool, but he has been seen scooting his butt across the floor. He continues to eat and behave normally; He is sched. 3/10/08 for routine vet appt.so hopefully we will have definite answers. I was just curious as to anyone's opinion on this. I am extremely sensitive to fleas; I have no bites and have not found any fleas on him; could it still be tapeworm. Please respond with any information.

Answer
Take a stool specimen in when Woofy goes in for his examination and then you should know if he has any parasites.

The scooting on the floor might mean that he needs his anal glands expressed. Be sure to ask the vet about this; he should be able to show you how to do it yourself in case it needs to be done in the future.

The frequent stools can be caused by the dog ingesting too much food. If you cut him back a bit, you might see some improvement. (This could be the reason for the anal gland problem.)

Be sure you are feeding a quality food such as Eagle, Canidae, Wellness, Solid Gold, or Flint River Ranch. The first ingredient should be a meat protein, or preferably a meat meal, there should be a minimum of grains, and there should be NO by-products in the food. Be sure there is no menadione (a source of vitamin K activity) in the food.
