Hi Nancy, I need help please I have a 2yr old shih tzu, I left her with a friend on Saturday January 8. My puppy is used to eating Alpo dog food, she gave her table scraps. I got her back yesterday 12 January and since then she is having very loose bowel movements and not eating or drinking. I also got to understand that she had my pup with a male for the entire time that she had her, she said she never mated the stud only tried to. My pup went into heat on December 30. Her dog is a whole lot taller than my pup so do you think they could have mated. I am so worried. My pup is so so moody since she came back home. I await your answer. Thanks

It is hard to say what happened at your friends house, but you can try some pepto bismal, start with a half of a pill and go up to one pill for one or two doses.  If this doesn't correct things then she will need to go to the vet.
Yes a big dog can mate with a small dog, and the timing is right.  A female is fertile on 12th or 13th day and the sperm lives for 3 days so it is possible he got her.   You can check with the vet to see if there is still a shot that can undo pregnancies, but I have heard that it is not the best thing to do.
