Digging in the wal

Question
I have a 5 year old rottweiler! I love her to death! I've had her since she was abour 2 1/2months. I also have 2 other dogs that she has grown up with and gets along great with. Ever since my rottie was a puppy she'd dig in the wall and the carpet! It was a period of maybe 2 years that she didn't dig in the wall. Now it appears she's digging in the same spots that I've spackled. Is there rhyme or reason to why she's digging my wall and why its in the same exact spots? Do you have any advice as to what can be done to eliminate the digging?
Thank you!

Answer
Hello Sara,

You can try a few things. It sounds like there may be a boredom issue. Rotties need LOTS of exercise each day. 45-60 minutes each morning and evening will do along with a 30 minute walk in the afternoons. A tired dog is a less destructive dog.

You can also try using Bitter Apple spray on the wall or cayenne pepper sprays. They are not harmful to pets and have a taste that they are not fans of. You'll have to reapply until he learns to leave alone the wall.

Plexiglas over your wall will prevent your dog from actually getting to the wall and will encourage him to leave it alone.
