3 month old puppy with frequent urination

Question
Hello,

I have a 3 month old male Boston Terrier Puppy. He has been
potty trained to ring a bell when he wants to go outside.
The past 3 days he has been doing #1 very frequently. He
will go pee and then pee small amounts in just a few
seconds. He sometimes squats to pee and nothing or only a
drop comes out. He has also been making some accidents
inside the house, which he has never done before. He has
been ringing the bell after only few minutes from being
outside.

In the past few weeks we have changed his diet twice. He
was originally on MediCal Development Formula (canned)
which the breeder was using. Then we weaned him onto
Wellness Just for Puppies (Kibble). Last weekend he was on
100 Wellness and wouldn't eat it. I tried adding some water
to soften it, but he wouldn't go near it. Unfortunately we
were in the USA at the time and I couldn't not find the
MediCal food anywhere (as I live in Canada and the food is
only sold here). I went to a Holistic Pet Food Store and
bought Merrick's Puppy Plate (canned). I mixed one can of
MediCal and one Can of Merrick's with some canned pumpkin.
He ate 4 meals of this mixture and then 100 Merrick's with
1 tbsp of mashed butternut squash for 3 days and was doing
fine. He is now on 100 Merrick's. He hasn't been drinking
much water. I believe this is because Merrick's canned is
80 moisture.

He has had his 2nd booster last week as well as his rabies
shot.

I'm not sure if this is a urinary tract infection or a
reaction to the change in food... or maybe he is just his
hormones? I also noticed that his testicles are descending.

I have also noticed him itching his skin more often... I
checked his fur and have not noticed any fleas or ticks. I
know Boston terriers are prone to skin issues.

One thing I will add is that he was very depressed during
the weaning process from Medical and Wellness... and once
he ate Merrick's he was much more active and happy.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Christina- First, let me say I applaud your food choices. I am glad to see someone feeding quality food!

Second, it does sound like a UTI, or if he is squealing, it may be a blockage. I would get him in ASAP for a urinalysis. Make sure he drinks LOTS of water!

I hope he feels better soon!!!
