my 9 year old chihuahua

I just had her spayed 2 weeks ago.  She did well.  She is filling up with milk and bites herself all the time.  She started filling up before she was spayed.  She doesn't hurt herself it is just bothering me.  She did the same thing before she was spayed but it went away after a while.  The vet said not to worry now but bring her back if it continues.  What do you think?  Thankyou so much!

Hi Jenny,

Because your dog is spayed, the problem might be a hormonal imbalance. Because you had your dog spayed so late in her life, there is also the possibility of Mammary tumors.

You've said that your vet told you to bring her back if the condition continues, and I think you should do just that.

Until you can be seen by your vet, try applying very warm compresses to your dog's enlarged breasts.
