Question
I have 2 10 months old min pins, that keep potting in the house, I  have tried almost everything except the Kennel, Which I beleive wis my next straw besides getting rid of them. The problem is that I live with my in-laws(for now) we are moving out of state in a couple of months and I do not want tne Pins to go in my new house. I am constandly picking up pooh and pee. I used the water bottle to squrit in their face when I can , however my Father in law gets mad at me and tells me that that is cruel, and that he is going to get me for child abuse, because I am being mean to the dogs. They spend most of their time in the backyard, because they like to play out there. When they come in they use the house and the brand new carpet as their bathroom, frankily I am tired of cleaning up after them, my in laws just tell me that it is only little poops. We have 7 dogs, all the other dogs will go out front but not the pins, if we take them out front they run. Right now I am so upset  at the pins that they are outside with food water and shade. They are two small to be made out door dogs, but I do not know what elese to do, that my in-laws will do say is cruel. My in-laws let their dogs run them, I on the other hand will not.
 What should I do?
  Thanks

Answer
Good grief, Allena! Squirting a dog with water is not cruel, and your father-in-law would be laughed out loud at if he called animal control about that! Using a crate to confine them when you're not at home is also not cruel, and is perhaps one of the better ways to housebreak a dog if you cannot be with them all the time.

The problem is that your dogs are using their outside time for play, rather than for going potty. You need to start taking them out on leash to potty BEFORE they are allowed to play. When you take them out to potty, do not let them try to play, or sniff things, or dig, or chase bugs. When they potty outside, you should praise them like there's no tomorrow, and THEN allow them off the leash to play or whatever. If they have not pottied within 5-10 minutes, take them back inside, keep them leashed to you and another family member (so they cannot play with each other inside, or run off and potty in the floor), and try again in 5-10 minutes, OR until you see them starting to potty in the floor. At that point, say "NO. Outside" and whisk them back outside. Remember to praise when they potty out there.

Little poops or not, it's still poop, and you shouldn't have to clean it up out of your floor every day.
