Question
I have a rottweiller puppy(8 weeks old) and so far my only problem is that when I put a collar on him he collapses and wont move. I really need to get him in a collar so that I can take him for walks as he needs to burn some energy, any suggestions as to how I can get through this? I want to do this the right way, Thanks, Bob

Answer
Start with the collar.  Go ahead and put it on in the house.  If he collapses and won't move, go on about your business ignoring him.  He will quickly tire of it and resume his energetic play.  Next add a short leash with no handle.  You can buy drag lines made just for this purpose, but a cheap leash with the handle cut off will work fine for one puppy.  Keep a good eye on him to make sure the leash doesn't get tangled in things.

When he is comfortable with the leash, then you can try walks outside.  Usually you can coax a puppy into walking on lead.  If getting out in front and coaxing doesn't get a puppy moving, try dropping behind it and running by in baby steps calling ''Go, go, go!'' In a happy, excited voice.
