Question
QUESTION: Hport,

I just got my 9 week old puppy vaccinated and dewormed for the first time. He got a 1ml distemper vaccine a 1ml bordetella vaccination and a dose of deworming medicine.  He is a chihuahua and weighs 1.8lb. He is playing and eating fine so far but he is sleeping a lot a lot more, I would day lethargic. He is also running a slight fever, I know that these are normal side effects but he also started urinating orange in small amours at a time not in like a normal stream more like almost dripping. I have given him a lot of water because of it but its still orange. I'm concerened about weather I should take him to the vet or not. Should I be concerned and take him to the vet? Is there something I can do to make him more comfortable?

Thank you

ANSWER:
Hi Natalia,

If your vet will see you tonight, keep your puppy warm, and have him examined this evening.

If your vet doesn't have after hours, or will not see emergencies, call your vet's office as soon as they open in the morning.

Continue to give your puppy water, Pedialyte, or Gatorade to keep him hydrated. If your puppy won't drink, here are directions for how to give liquids:

QUESTION: Thank you for the quick response,.do you know why his pee darkened? He is drinking and eating a lot.

Answer
Hello again,

Of course I can't diagnose your puppy. All I can do is tell you that dark urine can be cased by different things.

A  dog can having darker than usual urine can mean blood in the urine, a high temperature, bladder problems, or dehydration.
Dehydration is a serious concern in any dog, but this goes double for puppies and small breeds. If you're not seeing your vet until tomorrow, keep your puppy well hydrated.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,
Patti
