Question
Shawn, I have a rescued beagle that I have had for eight months. Three days ago I noticed her licking the pad on her left foot--ie center pad. Upon closer inspection of the pad it looks indented--like she licked it raw and layers of skin with it also!  I would greatly appreciate any answer you might have for me about GiGi            Thanks Randy

Answer
Hi Randy-

I would be concerned she has either injured that paw, or she is having an allergic reaction to something that is causing it to itch. Try soaking the paw in warm water, and cleaning it very well with a mild (baby) soap. Then a little bit of neosporin if it is raw. Take a look for any red spots, or hives. If you do, perhaps a trip to the vet is a good idea, or you can give them a call and ask for the proper dosage of children's beanery If not, keep an eye on GiGi. If she continues to worry the pad, I would try a little bit of bitter apple spray on a q-tip and rub it around the pad. (**do not do this if you notice any raw skin, wounds or hives**)

I hope she feels better, and thanks for rescuing!
