Question
We have an adult lab cross, we live on a farm. The dog has developed a bad habit of chasing cars, etc. down the road. He sometimes darts back and forth in front of vehicles. I am very worried for him and the people that drive by our farm. What can we do to stop this?

Answer

Hi Sheila,

You should be worried, it's just a matter of time until there is an accident. Two things can help.

One: don't allow your dog to go outside without being on a leash.

Two: Prevent your dog from being able to get anywhere near the road. If p putting up a fence, getting electronic "invisible fencing", or installing a exercise pen or dog run is not in your budget, getting a long length of strong rope or chain and securing it to a stake, or install a "dog trolley" should be done. This is an example of a dog trolley: http://www.unchainyourdog.org/Trolley.htm

Best of luck,
