Housetraining Problem

Question
My 5 month old Shih Tzu is fully trained when confined to the kitchen.  She uses a dog door which leads to an outside pet potty.  The problem arises when her space is expanded to other rooms of the house.  Even if she has just gone outside, she will either defecate or urinate in the other room and does not give any indication that she is going to do it. What can we do to correct this problem?

Answer
The method you are using will not work. doggie doors are for completely housebroken dogs which yours is not. Unfortunately, you need to retrain the dog using a crate and do NOT allow an accident, which means more supervision on your part. That is the only way this will get fixed. All she knows is not to go in her living area and since you have confined her to that spot, once she goes out the door or is let loose, that is her idea that it is ok to go anywhere.. good luck
