female pitbull in heat

our female is in her first heat we just bathed her with her uvula swollen we did not use soap. Was it not okay to do that? and if so what should I expect from it?

It was a mistake.  There is a chance of getting an infection.  Either get her spayed after she is finished, or get some books and do some reading.  Owning a dog carries responsibility.  You have not met yours.  I am sickened knowing we slaughter dogs by the millions for lack of homes.  Almost every day, I see questions like yours from people keeping an intact dog without the foggiest idea of proper care.  As she progress through her cycle, expect desperate attempts to get loose and go find a male.  Please be very careful with her.  Go to www.petfinders.org and see how many Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes need homes. Do we need her adding to the problem?
