My beagle is sick

Question
Recently my beagle has begun to urinate in her cage.  Now she is barely eating and doesn't seem to be going the bathroom.  Her stomach is extremely swollen.  She is still her happy self but I am worried.  Should i give her some kind of laxative just in case she is just plugged up or could this be something serious?

Answer
Hi Rick,

Your dogs needs to see a veterinarian and she's probably in pain.

One condition comes to mind, called "Bloat" (Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus, or GDV) it's actually life threatening if untreated.
With the distended belly, it's also possible that your dog has  Cushing's disease (a Thyroid disorder). It's controllable with medication. Other causes of a distended belly would include malnourishment, diseases that cause protein loss (kidney disease, liver disease, some
intestinal diseases), intestinal parasites, heart failure, abdominal tumors and probably some other things that aren't coming to mind right now.

As you can see, there are far too many "ifs" to try to treat this on your own. Your dog is having a medical problem and needs treatment...much sooner rather than later!

Best of luck,
Patti
