Question
My family recently adopted a Yorkie, he is five years old and we started to notice that he has a dandruff problem, What can we do to clean this up?

Answer
Hi Kimberly,

Thank you for writing to me about your Yorkie's dandruff problem.  I apologize for the delay.  I had a terminal dog that I had to attend to and have euthanized and was unable to get to your question.  Thank you for your understanding.

I would suggest that you feed your dog either a real food diet or a fish and potato diet to determine if your Yorkie suffers from allergies.  If you are feeding a certain form of protein, such as chicken, switch to another form of protein to see if this makes a difference. Avoid all grains and soy as these are high allergins.

Additionally, add fish oil to your dog's diet.  You can find a fish oil specifically geared to dogs at either the health food store or a high end pet shop.  Fish oil is really great for dandruff.

Do not bath your dog too often and when you do use an organic, oatmeal based shampoo for sensitive skin.

Best Regards,
