Dear Crystal,

Hi! I would like to ask you about my male shihtzu dog. He scratches a lot for years now. I already tried using mild shampoo on him, changed his food to science diet for sensitive skin, and used frontline..but i think its not really working. There are times (approx twice or three times a year) when he scratches so hard, he gets a wound.  He is also given heartworm prevention medicine monthly. What should I do?

I also would like to ask if it is ok to give fruits to my shihtzu dog? He particulary likes grapes & papaya.

Hi Ruth!  Have you had your Shih Tzu checked for skin allergies?  He may possibly need to be put on medication for this.  I would attempt to try some cortizone spray on him.  You can buy this at Wal Mart.  When he starts itching, just spray it on him and it should stop it.  The fruit you are giving him should be fine.  Mine all love fruits and vegetables.  :)
