Chihuahua Teeth

Question
Hi Cindi-
I have a six month old long hair chihuahua. She started losing her baby teeth at about 4 months old, but she still hasn't lost her baby cainine teeth, and the adult cainine teeth are already in. That makes her have double cainine teeth in all four spots of her mouth. Should I go to the vet and have them pulled? Or, just wait it out for a couple months to see if they fall out?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Emily Williams

Answer
Hi Emily
This is very very common with chi's. Take her to the vet and have him evaluate her mouth,. You don't want to wait for too long as having the double row of teeth will mess her bite up to the point that it could even be detrimental to her health. Let him make the judgement regarding waiting or doing the surgery now. Please also be aware that this is a genetic condition and should you breed her you will be passing this along to her offspring
thanks
Cindi
