Question
I have a 70 lb dog and was instructed to give 8 cup of Pork and 8 cups of yams a day by my vet.  It is a diet to help us evaluate his skin condition.  I just think this amount is excessive. Comments please.  Not to mention I spend all day in the kitchen cooking for my baby!~ Thanks!

Answer
You need to talk to your vet about this since it is his/her 'recipe'. Could it have been 8 cups total? (4/4) You may have misunderstood what was said. Bag up and freeze the extras that you make so that you do not have to cook for the dog every single day.

According to the following site, an elimination diet should be made up of one part meat protein to two parts carbohydrate. http://www.canobolasvet.com/site/view/116064_Eliminationdietforfoodallergies.pml

http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_common.htm  The translation is that your 70 lb. dog is about 32kg., and he should be eating about 1.2 lbs. meat and 2.4 lbs. carbohydrate, for a total of 3.5 lbs. of home-cooked food a day.
