twisted tail on Mini Schnauzer

Question
Our 11 year old female Mini Schnauzer had a perfectly normal docked tail for most of her life. About two years ago her tail started to twist and it has continued to do so. She is in good health and seems perfectly happy. Is there a non-surgical cure for the twisted tail? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Answer
When a tail goes out of alignment like that, it usually means that there is an issue with the spine. I would suggest that you find a veterinary chiropractor and see if your dog cannot be adjusted. http://www.avcadoctors.com/search_for_avca_certified_doctor.htm

Adjustments are usually needed when:

The dog no longer does full yawns.
The dog no longer does complete body stretches, fore and aft.
The dog cannot touch its ribcage, left and right, with its nose.
The dog doesn't bear weight evenly on all four legs.
The spine is no longer straight, from the back of the skull all the way to the end of its tail (assuming it has a normal, uncurled tail).
