My family of dogs

Question
I have four maltese and a cockapoo and a rat terrior and am looking to retire in Jamaica.  I spoke with the consulate and he said no dogs to jamaica.  They have not been updated with rabies (which I believe is a live vaccine), but I have all the necessary papers for them.  I cannot live without my little family.  They are very good professionally trained dogs.  What do I do?  They are quite healthy and well behaved.  Where do I go to find info on how to get them there.  They don't weigh much so in the bottom of an airplane I'm concerned they will freeze to death.  The largest only weighs 9.5 lbs.  Thank you for your comments.

Answer
You need to find out the exportation requirements from your state's local USDA http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/ncie/exp-pets.html and the importation requirements for Jamaica http://www.congenjamaica-ny.org/ When I exported a couple dogs to Italy, I found the USDA to be much more helpful than the Italian Consulate (which wasn't at all). If dogs are not allowed to be exported to Jamaica from this country, then you only have two options... find a different place to retire, or place your pets with family/friends or put them into a rescue for placement. Personally, I would opt to retire somewhere else.

As to flying them in cargo, put sweaters on them if their coats are short and shred LOTS of newspaper in the crates. I put in enough that my dog(s) could sort of burrow into the stuff. Since your dogs are small, you might be able to ship them two to a crate. You would have to check with the airline.
