dog mating

Question
My labs were stuck in a butt to butt position while trying to mate.  They are both new to it.  Is this dangerous?  They seem okay.  (they were actually stuck when I began this question and have since figured it out)  Do I need to do anything?

Answer
Hi Angela,

What you observed was a completely normal part of the mating process for dogs, called a "tie". You should not try to separate your dogs while they are doing this. You can read more about mating dogs, here:

Should your female dog become pregnant, you will need to know about pregnancy, what to expect, what means there's a problem, and what to do when she delivers. You can read about that here:

Best of luck,
