Leaving a dog at home

Question
Hi. My partner & I are great lovers of animals, we already have homed 2 cats and are interested in getting a dog. The question that I want to ask is how long can a dog be left alone for during the day? As we are both in full time work, we are out of the house for at least 8 hours. We have been getting mixed responses from a lot of people regarding this issue. Rescue centres that we have visited have told us that under no circumstances are we allowed to adopt a dog due to our work commitments, but surely not everyone in the world who owns a dog works part-time or can get home during part of the day? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Well there are doggie day cares that your dog can go to for the day,and come home with you for the night, much like a child day care

Also some breeds such as Basenjis and Shiba Inus are very cat-like and independent so they can be left alone for hours as well

Many dogs just cope when no one is home and it's a good idea to at least start off by putting the dog in the crate when you are out,so he or she can't soil the house ect
