Question
My husband and I recently discovered that we wont be able to have children of our own...so we have decided that we would get a dog and love it just the same. We would like to adopt from a shelter, but a shelter without a ridiculous adoption fee and genuine yorkies is hard to find. and if we are going to pay alot for an older dog that doesn't have papers we would rather get one from a breeder. my question is do you know of any shelters that could help us out in our area. our zip is 08021 we are in pine hill NJ.  thank you so much.

Answer
Well a shelter is actually WAY cheaper then a petstore and those dogs are not healthy, they are usually sick and from puppymills, plus shelters usually including getting the dog fixed ect However it is rare for a yorkie to be in a shelter,I have volunteered at one for close to ten years and have only seen about three yorkies

Anyways I did a search and this was the closest one I found:

Camden County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center

(856) 401-1300

2032 Barnsboro-Blackwood Rd
Blackwood, NJ 08012

What you can do is to call the shelter, and ask them if they have a number for a yorkie rescue,as yorkies are rarely in a regular shelter, and if they don't have the number for one,you can always call up vet offices as they may have numbers for them as well

And a good breeder is great too,but never buy a dog in a petstore,as I meantioned they come from puppymills and often aren't even purebreds, also watch out for 'backyard breeders' which do not show there dogs, nor do they screen them for diseases, just just throw two dogs together that are the same breed without any thought-a good breeder has papers, shows there dogs and screens them for diseases before breeding
