Question
Hello!  I just recently adopted a puppy from a local rescue shelter and not a whole lot of information was known about him.  I was told they think he is a Doxie/Spaniel mix.  I have no idea if this is correct or not.  The following is a ling to a picture I took of him.  Any help would be fantastic!  Thank you!!

Answer
Hi Lauren,

Congratulations on getting a new puppy!

It's really hard to give breed guesses, because you're assuming that both of your dog's parents are purebred dogs. The possibility exists that both of your puppy's parents were also mixed breed dogs. Also, it's harder to judge what breed mixes he might be until he's fully grown.

In the photo you provided, your puppy (who is beautiful!) is laying on a couch, so I can't see if he's got the characteristically long body and short legs, or long muzzle which would make one assume that he's part Daschund.

To me, your pup's looks like he's got some Beagle in him, except that he's all black and not tri-colored as many Beagles are. Here is a picture of a Beagle:

Whatever your puppy's heritage, he's 100% wonderful, and will be a loving companion for his whole life long!

Best of luck,
Patti
