dog in heat

hello, i have a female chihuahua and she is in heat. i don't have the money to have her fixed. i heard that there was a spray i can use to keep male dogs from bothering her. if there is what is in it?

Hi Brad,

Thanks for writing to me.  A female in heat is going to be an on-going issue that may one day end in unwanted puppies and we already have too many dogs on death row dying every day due to not enough homes being available...so this is not something that you want to have happen.  

Spaying also help drastically decrease the risk of breast cancer.  Every heat a female goes through dramatically increases those chances.  There is also the unwanted attention of hormone driven males at your door.

If you are low on funds there are options.  There are certificates from Friends of Animals.  There are low opportunities.  If you send me your email address I will forward a list of possibilities.  Having your location would be helpful.

I encourage you to have her spayed.
