space heater and my pitbull

Question
My 2yr old pitbull LOVES laying in front of our space heater. Recently her back has started breaking out with bumps and shes had dandruff BAD. (The bumps only come up on her back). I know that pitbulls have sensitive skin and we originally thought it might be a food allergy. We have had her on a grain free diet and have cut out all treats. We are giving her Brewer's Yeast tablets and fish oil to help with her skin as well. She has been on this diet for 2 weeks now and was improving until I caught her laying in front of the heater again. Her back started to break out again and I am beginning to think this is being caused by the space heater. Our space heater is a fake fireplace and gets unbearablly hot if you sit in front of it.(She lays with her back right up against it). Does this sound like it could be the heater rather than a food allergy or skin problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (ALSO: she didnt have any of these skin issues until Winter)

Answer
I don't see how the heater could be causing her bumps, but put up an exercise pen around the heater to keep her away from it and see if she doesn't start improving again. It could be that the excess heat is just drying her skin out too much. If the skin issues continue after keeping her away from the heater, then it might be a food allergy.

If it is a food allergy, the brewer's yeast could be one source of the problem, while proteins are the #1 food allergen. You could try changing whatever the primary food protein is to a different protein (ie. chicken to lamb). All food changes should be done one at a time to try to determine the exact problem.
