Question
we have 2 yorkies (one both male) is 5 1/2 (the father) the other is 1(his son) they have been together since the pup was 7 weeks old but the last 2 weeks they have done nothing  but literally fight. we are constantly having to break them up. when we walkl them they fight they fight in our bed(both sleep with me) never a problem before the only thing that has been different was we had a female yorkie here about 3 weeks ago for the older yorkie to be a stud service. we kept her and him awaay from the little one. im about ready to get rid of both dogs. any suggestions?

Answer
As the younger one matures, it is quite likely it will challenge both the older dog and you for leadership.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/  For more on being top dog, see http://www.dogbreedinfo.com./topdogrules.htm  It is also possible the older dog is working at heading off any rival while it still has the advantage.

Neutering both would help.  It is no cure all, but a big help with many problems.  Chances are, the older one, while a nice dog, isn't the outstanding dog that should be used fro breeding.  We will still have plenty to keep www.petfinders.org well stocked with Yorkies needing homes.
