New Siberian Husky puppy

Question
Hi,

I just got a Siberian Husky pup and he is 6 weeks old, Its been wormed and have had his first inj and vet check a day before i got him, the owner told me that he will be alright, and to be totally honest he has been a good puppy, been eating good and sleeping , he only cried the first day when he woke up, and been good since that, very playful and loving pup.

The reason for me asking for your advice was that someone told me that it was wrong of the breeder to give me the pup so young, he should at least be 8 weeks. this worries me, i only want the best for the dog, is he going to be ok being so young.

Thank you for your time and i will be looking forward hearing from you soon

Best regards

Amir

Answer
Yes, the breeder should have kept the puppy until he was eight weeks old, but that isn't quite as bad as the one I recently responded to who had gotten two 4-week-olds.

Your biggest problem will be that your puppy is in the process of learning to inhibit his bite, so you must be sure to help him with that. Don't allow any mouthing or biting, and don't play any tug-of-war games which would encourage that behavior. He needs to be socialized around other (good) dogs, and it would be helpful if you found one which was good at correcting his naughty behavior in a nice way.... putting him down without actually hurting him.

Get a copy of the book "How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With" by Rutherford and Neil.

You should also take the puppy *into your own vet* for an examination. Be sure to take a stool specimen in also. Dogs need to be wormed more than once to eliminate parasites.
