Reacurring skin condition

Question
I have a 9 yr old black lab that has had a recurring skin and yeast (ear) infection for the last 2 years. She has always been fed lamb and rice dry dog food. She has extremely dry skin under her 4 legs close to her body (arm pits) and continues to scratch and bit her hind quarters. Everytime I take her to the vet they put her on Cephalexin and give me some drops for her ears (last time was Mometamax 15 GM). The last vet also put her on Ketoconazole 200mg. They told me I should put her on a strict diet and try to eliminate a food allergy. She hated the taste of the food and stopped eating, so I went back to her regular feeding of lamb and rice dry food.. The meds ALWAYS help for about 2 months and then it comes right back(meds are always for 30 days doses).. Right now I have her on Benadryl to try and control the itching..until I take her back to the vet. Could this be something other than a food allergy? and can I treat this itching without having to go back to the vet? Having to go to the vet every 3-5 months to treat the same condition is becoming very concerning... Thank you soo much for your time :-)

Answer
It does sound like a food allergy. Lamb as a protein source is not a good one alone. I would put her on a grain free food. Wellness and Natural balance both have good ones with limited ingredients. She WILL eat when she's hungry. Stick to your guns. If you don't, eventually she will become immune to the antibiotics and they'll stop working. Give her flax seed oil every day. vitamin E, human dosage is usually fine. fifteen hundred mg's of vit c, start with five hundred broken into two doses, in a week go up to a thousand, five hundred twice per day, in another week fifteen hundred, five hundred three times per day. If she develops an upset tummy go back to the highest dose she can tolerate. Put her on omega fish oil supplements as well. Biotin and cod liver oil. I think in a month or less you will see a HUGE improvement
