Question
We have an elderly old dog who's at the end of her rope.  The vet said all we can do is either put her down, which they can't do for another week because they have no appointments, or make her comfortable while she goes, which could be any time.  I've heard that you can give dogs baby asprin, is this safe?  I'd guess she's  around 15 lbs.  I know you aren't a vet, but all the ask the veterinarian experts are maxed out.  I just want to ease her suffering a little.

Answer
In what way is she 'at the end of her rope'?
If she has joint pain put her on chondroiten and glucosamine, you'll be amazed at how much better she will feel. Five hundred MGS of vitamin C a day (do not give C if dosing with asprin products) MSN, plus b complex, flax weed oil, omega fish oil will help a lot no matter what her problems are. Don't give baby aspirin. Give ascriptin or another buffered aspirin product. Usual Dose and Administration
Dogs: 5-15 mg/pound by mouth every 8-12 hours. Duration of treatment depends on response to treatment and reason for treatment. Give with a small amount of food to decrease the risk of ulcers forming.
You can also try heating pads set on low to help with pain.
That's the best I can do with no more information than you've given me. Did you ask your vet to give you a script for rimadyl? I would think under the circumstances he would do so. If you in your heart believe euthansia to be best in her situation, dont' wait for your vet. Call every vet in your area and find someone who can do it sooner. Don't let her suffer. This is one of the most important responsibilities of pet ownership.
Good luck
